LUX Photonics Consortium was launched in September 2015 with the vision of bringing the academia and industry together for a common purpose of innovating new products or technologies that are enabled by photonics. The Consortium is fully supported by the National Research Foundation which has to date funded 9 photonics-related Competitive Research Programmes. With nine founding Academic Researchers and 13 founding company members, the Consortium will serve as a platform to translate cutting-edge research in photonics into diverse applications underpinned by the value chain created in Singapore.
For a start, the Consortium will consolidate capabilities in the following key areas:
- Fibre Technologies
- III-V Optoelectronics and Biophotonics
- Optical and Laser applications
- Nanophotonics and Metamaterials
- Lighting and Displays
The Consortium serves to link capabilities at the IHLs and Research Institutes to local MNCs and SMEs with the aim of translating relevant technologies into products for the companies. The Consortium also plans to rope in other photonics research groups and industries in the region, to become a regional network for academics and companies in the field.
